Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–7 pm. It is closed on Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (919) 780-8554. Durham is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Durham is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The hamburger steak and gravy was decent. But my cabbages smell like they had two pig feets in it while it was cooking. And my lima beans and corn has turkey meat in it. I wish they would have told me that my sides would have all of this other meat in it. That just throws my whole taste off from cabbages and lima beans and corn. I wasting my money $16 down the drain

If you’re not going to be open on a Sunday, can customers please be informed ahead of time instead of not saying anything? I was really looking forward to eating here after church on Sunday (5/31/26), so it was disappointing to find out you were closed without notice. I understand things happen, but updating your hours online or making an announcement on social media would really help customers avoid wasting a trip. Hopefully communication improves moving forward because I was genuinely excited to try the food.

This is not soul food. This food tastes like the exact opposite of soul. I added a picture of my food in order to show that I tried to eat it. Yams tasted crazy, collards tasted crazy, baked chicken tasted crazy(not even sure what it's supposed to be)since when is baked chicken soaked in buffalo sauce? This is confusing! Just tell me that you don't know what REAL soul food is nor how to cook it rather than sell me some expensive meals that come from processed canned goods. I gave 2 stars for the service employees showing up to work, but one star overall because I paid generously for food that I couldn't eat because it was not good.

When I say that food was banging, it was banging! I had the Oxtail special and it was SO GOOD! The oxtails were meaty and tender. They gravy was good, the cabbage/collards were good and the mac and cheese. You can tell somebody grandmother taught them how to cook! Can't wait to go back and try the other dishes! I want some chicken and dumplings, the hamburger steak, the shrimp, I just want to try the whole menu! Sides included! Update: I originally gave them 5 stars but I changed it to 3 stars, here is why. I order the hamburger steak w/ rice and gravy. My rice was hard and soft. It was like someone add more rice 10 minutes after the rice that had already started. I told the young lady at the counter and all said was "Im sorry, I'll let them know". She didn't offer to replace it or anything. And the sides felt rushed this time. The cabbage/collard mix was slightly bland and the yam souffle wasn't what I thought it would be. It looked and tasted like yam mashed potatoes. Only thing that was on point this time was the chicken and dumplings and cookies and cream pudding. Im all about consistency, that's what makes a restaurant withstand the rain!
